Specs Polymer supplies specialised flame-retardant polycarbonate sheets for projects that require transparency, impact resistance and documented fire-test performance. Selected grades may be available with UL 94 V-0 classification and/or ASTM E84 test results, subject to the exact product, thickness, colour and test report.
These materials are suitable for equipment enclosures, electrical and electronic applications, interior panels, data-centre infrastructure and other environments where ordinary general-purpose polycarbonate may not meet the project specification.

What is flame-retardant polycarbonate?
Flame-retardant polycarbonate is a specialised polycarbonate grade formulated to improve its behaviour under defined flammability tests. It retains many useful polycarbonate properties, including transparency and impact resistance, while offering documented flame-performance options for selected applications.
What does UL 94 V-0 mean?
UL 94 V-0 is a flammability classification for a plastic material tested vertically under specified conditions. The rating is linked to the exact material grade and tested specimen thickness. It should not be described as proof that a finished building or assembly is fireproof.
What does ASTM E84 measure?
ASTM E84 is a test method used to compare the surface-burning characteristics of building materials. It reports a Flame Spread Index and Smoke Developed Index under defined test conditions. It differs from UL 94 and should not be treated as an interchangeable rating.
Is UL 94 V-0 the same as ASTM E84 Class A?
No. They are different test methods used for different types of assessment. UL 94 evaluates the flammability of plastic specimens, while ASTM E84 evaluates surface flame spread and smoke development of building materials. A project may request one or both, depending on the application and governing specification.
Is flame-retardant polycarbonate fireproof?
No plastic sheet should be marketed simply as fireproof. Flame-retardant grades are designed to achieve particular results under stated test conditions. Actual performance depends on the exact grade, thickness, installation, surrounding materials and fire exposure.
Why must the test report match the sheet thickness?
Flammability classifications can depend on specimen thickness. A result obtained for one thickness should not automatically be claimed for every thickness. The supplied grade and thickness should be checked against the relevant report or certification listing.
Can flame-retardant polycarbonate be cut and fabricated?
Many grades can be cut or fabricated, but the process must account for sheet stress, edge quality, heat and the manufacturer’s recommendations. Fabrication also does not automatically mean the completed assembly has the same fire classification as the original test specimen.
